New Year, Old Habits but New Goals

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you all have a GREAT 2010. I can't believe how much has changed for me this year... this morning, my husband mentioned something to the effect of "good riddance, get the heck out of here, 2009"... it has been a hell of a year. Of course, I think his thoughts were more along the line of economy, etc... But take that aspect out of it, and 2009 was a great year for me - I am at a weight where I haven't been since high school. I feel healthier now than I've ever felt before.

One thing I noticed yesterday though, is that I really need to start getting comfortable with recognizing my "new" self. I got a gift certificate to Macy's for X-mas, so yesterday I there and got completely overwhelmed that everything I picked to try on (size 18 bottoms, some XL and L tops) was too big or too frumpy... I am so used to choosing non-color items, blah, bland, something to "hide" in (khaki, navy or black, long pants, no shape, etc...). All of those things looked bad. But I couldn't quite bring myself to try on what I consider to be non "sarah" stuff... so I left. I am fighting a chest cold, and I guess I just wasn't there mentally yesterday to choose size 16's yet... weird! Somehow I think that if I choose them I'll NEVER fit into them - I still have the flashes of going back to 283 pounds... I think I need to bring one or two of my girlfriends shopping with me and let them choose things because I am so engrained in my old "uniform"... So, I'm saving my gift certificate to go back another day when I'm ready - and now that I've cleaned out my closet, I will DEFINITELY need shorts!

All that being said, I'm ready for a new challenge! So here is my goal for 2010, that I know will get me into 16, 14 0r (dare I even say it) 12's!!! My goals for 2010 are to get to my goal weight, get my family even healthier, and run an official "race mile" for every year I've lived, which is 37. That is essentially 12-5k races. One a month. I can do that! Yesterday, I decided to make this goal official and we signed up for a couple of different things to get me toward this goal:
  • We rejoined the YMCA as a family and signed Lucia up for swim lessons starting in January.
  • Dennis & I signed up for the Ukrops / Monument Avenue 10K on March 27th (and I also signed up for the 12-week, 10K training team that is held at the Y starting next week).
  • I signed up for the Shamrock 8K in Virginia Beach on March 20th. This one scares me a bit, because Dennis is running in the 1/2 marathon the next day so it'll be my first race going it alone... but I can do it! Crazy Coconut may join in - any other bandsters in the VA Beach area want to join???? And how cute is this.... Lucia is going to run in the kids marathon, which is 26.2 yards! Awesome. Get her into a good, healthy habit now!!!
So, those are my goals. Very doable. Happy New Year everyone - may 2010 be even better for all of us on this great journey!

Wow, I'm wore out just reading your running goals, but so GOOD for YOU! You will do it all, and getting Lucia involved is such a great idea. I'll be watching your posts for updates on your runs, for sure. Happy 2010 Sarah!

On Nov 16 a gift a card from my sweet babboo was burning a hole in my pocket - my birthday gift - so we went to the store and I tried on size 8 jeans and pranced out to show him how good they fit. He said - wait a minute, got size sizes (OH MY!) and gave them to me to try on. You know - they slid right one. I would have NEVER tried them on if he had not encouraged me to. Go For It !!!!

Sarah,
Sorry you're feeling crappy right now (cold etc) but hey, what a great recap on your year. I have a good feeling about 2010 (though I'm sure I won't be as active as you.. whew.. you amaze me!!)

Those are GREAT goals! Maybe u didn't feel in the mood to try on the 16s b/c you felt sick and u wanted to be all enthused and hyper about it! It will be a big moment, no matter when you do it!
