So I posted a few back about the fact that I am really blessed with amazing friends. Tonight, my BF and neighbor Ali brought over a pan of brisket... Delicious, to be sure... but post-worthy? Yes... and here is why... Her rationale was multi-fold... and here it is, as verbatim as possible...
- "We Jews... we don't do plants or flowers... we feed you!"
- "I wanted to make sure I could do something you could enjoy... and I knew that Noodle Kugel (the most delicious delicacy in the world that she makes) might cause you to get stuck on the noodles... even though there is protein from the egg, it probably isn't band-friendly"
- "The Matzoh-Caramel-Chocolate Crunch, while delicious (OMG - seriously, it is take-a-moment-for-yourself-worthy), is too fattening. I don't want to sabotage you."
- "So I thought that I'd make you a brisket... it is lower in fat and high protein"
OMG... I love you Ali!!! Not only do you know how to truly do Jewish comfort food, but you are truly an amazing, wonderful, beautiful friend... Mazol Tav, or maybe L'chaim/Lechayem - to two of our favorite people who are making sure that they take care of two of their favorite girls (and many more)...

BTW - this is so damn good that I am determined to bring brisket through security and onto my flight to Florida tomorrow... and if I don't pack some of it up soon, Dennis will eat it all!

I'm not Jewish, but damn, I love me some brisket!!! Have a safe time on your trip :)
I married into a Jewish family and gained 60 pounds. Just sayin'. ;) Enjoy that brisket!
Sounds delicious and that's so very thoughtful of your BF.
LOL! I *AM* Jewish and the minute I saw the word brisket in your post title, I guessed the reason behind it.
Yes, we Jews do FOOD when someone is in mourning.
I don't do brisket because I don't eat beef, but I make a mean kugel and the matzoh toffee candy is a serious problem in my family. We are allowed to make it for Passover ONLY and we can only make 1 pan. I refuse to bring leftovers of it into my house!!
I am glad the tradition brought you some comfort. I am also pretty sure you are a great friend yourself, because you need to be one to have one.
BTW- Mazal Tov is "Congratulations" or "Good Luck" or "Wonderful"
L'chaim is "To Life" and is often used in toasts.
Your friend did a Mitzvah (good deed) in taking care of you. You can tell her she is a "Mensch" (a person of honor, one who does good deeds and can be counted on!) I am sure she will smile.
Wow...what a great friend and I loved Kagead's response. Now can you tell me what brisket is??? Best of luck for Friday xxx
That was sweet of her. I'm glad you're enjoying it. :)
Brisket is a cut of meat, usually beef. We Alabamians love to smoke it for hours and lather in in BBQ sauce. It. is. awesome.
kugel = my life. MMMM!
What an awesome friend!
What a nice thing to do, and the rationale behind it was especially sweet! My mom made a brisket last weekend when Scott and I went over for dinner and it is sooo good and I could see how it's very band friendly. I LOVE when my mom cooks Jew food. She makes the best matzo ball soup in the world.
