Nope, not that way... Meet Alexander.
Alexander the Beta Fish.

| A close up of Alexander, who is really a beautiful fish... why is it that the males are so much prettier than the female betas?!?!? |

As I mentioned in Saturday's post, Lucia earned/saved enough money to buy herself a fish and all the accoutrements (minus the aquarium which we bought for her for being so focused and saving / earning her money)... She named him Alexander. I think it is a nice, strong name for a fish! (Who knows where THAT name came from)... He is very shy and hides behind the filter... hopefully he'll warm up to us and his new home - especially the pink and purple gravel which she very carefully chose for him and the seashells she took from her treasures to make his home more comfortable!!! He'll be getting brothers/sisters in a week or so... more to come!
| The new "digs"... you can see him kind of in the top left corner near the fake fern... |

Awww...he is adorable! Congratulations to Lucia for her first of many, many little Alexanders!
Awww....super cute!
Pretty!
Sarah - I thought beta fish didn't play well with others (e.g., multiple fish in the tank). You likely know more than me at this point, but you might want to check that out. Would hate for something to happen to Alexander! Also, not sure if you've done this yet, but if you hold up a mirror to his face, they'll typically flair out the fins on their face. Beta's are japanese fighting fish, so they see their reflection and think it's another fish. It's an angry response, but it's gorgeous! I had one in college, his name was Gil. ;-)
I've heard that too about them not playing well with others?? I'm not sure though.
But yea for the new addition.
@ Jenny & Bandita - the people at the store said that there are a few other fish that they will tolerate, but definitely NOT another Beta, so we'll see!!! Believe me, we'll definitely do our research before adding to his abode...
How cute!! My 6 year old daughter, Sarah (great name, huh?) has a goldfish named Goldie. He was round #3 of the fish collection. All the others went belly up very quickly, but surprisngly, she handled their deaths very well. She loves taking care of Goldie, though. Fish are great for kids!!
Hold a mirror up to the glass and watch him puff up!
What a beautiful tank. Lucky Lucia.
Betas are such pretty fish!
Thanks for becoming a follower of mine a few weeks ago - I am almost caught up on everyone's blogs! You've had such a wonderful journey, and I love your honesty.
Looking forward to getting to know you!
