There's no place like home

No place like home... OK - I admit it - I'm homesick! I am so glad that tomorrow night at this time, I'll be home with Lucia and Dennis... YAY! Although it's nice sometimes to have a night away, three is too much and I also want back into my regular routine. Little things, like checking my weight at night before I go to bed. I have no idea where I am, but I am not feeling like I've gained weight. Guess I'll find out! Today was a long day... started at 7am and went 'till 7pm - all work. So no workout today. I'm going to try to get it in tomorrow. As an aside, I've always had trouble with my heels cracking, and I have a good crack in my right foot today that hurts. It's going to suck tomorrow being on my feet for 5 hours for training. Oh well... Suck it up Sarah! Nothing some bacetracin and a bandaid won't fix. Talk to you all soon!

I hear you on the homesick front. It IS nice to have a day or two away but then we start to think.. I want to see my hubby and kid(s). And my house. And my dog. And my cat and yadda yadda yadda lol

Poor you with the cracked heel. I suffer from that too and it kills! It's hard to walk and yet, you have to be on your feet all the time. I feel for you. Just baby those little tootsies along and see how you go.

It's a bit uncomfortable, but have you tried sleeping with your feet heavily slathered with vaseline and in socks? It will probably take 3-5 nights but you will likely see those cracks heal up nicely. Then you need to keep up the vaseline/sock regimine a couple times a week. I'm a lapbander that is 14 months out from surgery and have lost 111 lbs - am at my goal. My blog is sallyslapbandjourney.blogspot.com.

I am the poster child for homesickness...I have been away from home for 2 years now and only seen my family and friends 3 times (and feel even more homesick after each trip!) Makes this weight loss journey so much harder for me....

I get cracked heals to and I have found that vaseline/ or a good thick mosituriser with a pair of cotton socks overnight works....

When I read your post, it suddenly dawned on me that (!) my heels don't crack anymore. At my heaviest, I'd get these horrible, deep cracks in them that were painful at times. But that hasn't happened in months and months. I wonder if the cracking was weight-related. (Hopefully it's not just a seasonal reprieve!)

That is so interesting. I'm glad that you made me think about this.

Hope you had a great time on your first night back home! I bet that your family was really missing you, too!

I had to google. epodiatry.com says:

Other factors that can be involved in the cause of cracked heels include:
~ prolonged standing (at work or home, especially on hard floors)
~ being overweight (this increases the pressure on the normal fat pad under the heel, causing it to expand sideways - if the skin is not supple and flexible, the pressures to 'crack' are high)
~ open back on the shoes (this allows the fat under the heel to expand sideways and increases the pressure to 'crack')
~ some medical conditions predispose to a drying skin (eg autonomic neuropathy in those with diabetes leads to less sweating; an underactive thyroid lowers the body's metabolic rate and there is a reduction in sweating, leading to a dryness of the skin)
skin conditions (eg psoriasis and eczema)

Cool- I had no idea my excess weight also contributed to crack heels. So strange.

Hope you enjoy the home coming Sarah, sounds like long days away from family and your pillow!
