What about Bob?

So I have to share a super-fun experience I had this weekend... Saturday night, Dennis and I went to a birthday party for one of his co-worker's spouses. I haven't seen the folks he works with since his 40th party back in November 0f 2008 (i.e. pre-banding and 80 pounds ago) since they cancelled the Christmas party last year, so I was looking forward to seeing people. Dennis has one co-worker who was there that I had this experience with, and we'll call him "Bob". Well, we were out on the deck hanging out there, and I went to grab a drink. Bob was standing there by the drinks, and I said hello. Here was his response...
  • Sarah: "Hey Bob! How are you?"
  • Bob: "Hi (clearly not a clue who I am but he's a sales guy so pretty smooth)... How are you?"
  • Sarah: "I'm Dennis's wife (pointing to him), Sarah."
  • Bob: "Oh my god. Oh my god. OH. MY. GOD. (looking back and forth between me and Dennis, then I got the up and down look)
  • Sarah: (I can't wipe the grin off of my face)
  • Bob: "What happened to you? I mean, you look great, I mean holy cow, I... I... I just need to be quiet now. Oh. My. God. You look just fantastic!"
  • Sarah: (Laughing out loud) "Yeah, I've lost some weight."
  • Bob: (Hugging me and talking to Dennis) "I'm taking her home tonight, okay Dennis?"
At any rate, the whole interchange made my night. Dennis was just laughing at the whole thing (I think he was proud of me too and that I was with him!)... Such a good sport about it! How fun! I mean, people have been so supportive and reinforcing about how much better I look, but for the first time I feel like I've had someone really react to me this way, if that makes sense. This guy is in sales, goes to CCV (the very toniest of country clubs here - you have to be first-family of virginia to be a member), and is one of those people who is always polite and always politically correct, so his reaction was just so fun and out of character. His wife is the ultimate polite southern lady and didn't mention anything about it until well into the conversation (and then she whispered ever-so-slightly and asked what my secret was)... I told her! What a fun night... I can't wait for a few more reactions like this one!!!
