WARNING!!! I'm about to talk about underwear. And boobs. And rabid possums. (Dad, you may want to delete or close now, or skip the underwear section). This is really going to be a random post this morning.
UNDERWEAR: IT FEELS GOOD!!! What, you might ask? Putting on a pair of underwear, and realizing that they are WAY TOO BIG! Yay! And it isn't just because the cotton stretched, mind you. These were easily going down two inches on my legs, baggy in the bottoms and went up to almost a few inches below the breast bone. Where did they come from? When did they ever fit? The sad thing is, that at some point in the last year, they fit and fit well. I've started a basket of clothes that are too big. The underwear is going in the TRASH! Not that bucket. Some day, I'll be able to buy those cute, sexy underwear they sell at Victoria's Secret. Note: I'll be ABLE TOO - I may not, I may still stick with good 'ole cotton panties, but damn it - they won't be the full coverage kind! The other excitement this AM came from putting on a pair of new yoga-type pants that are XXL. That may seem huge to some of you, but those of you who have been in plus-size clothes can understand that this is an accomplishment. They show a few more bulges than I would hope, but they FIT. They went on over my hips. That is the point. It's a good Friday morning so far!
OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN & "THE GIRLS": I'm thinking that I'll start my official weekly weigh in on Fridays. I weighed in this morning, and FINALLY the scale has started moving again. I'm down to 251, which is 26.5 pounds lost since starting to track this time around. (Actually, it is 32 pounds if I count my highest ever non-pregnant weight of 283 - see the March 17th blog)... I will probably still weigh myself every morning - it is habit, and personally I find that it gives me an indication of how to manage that day... but from an "official" perspective, and for tracking purposes, I think once a week may be the best bet. I also need to do measurements today. I haven't taken any of those, and want to start tracking. I think things are starting to shift around. As a side note, I really hope that as I continue to lose weight, it skips the girls. I like my girls. They don't need to lose weight. Just every other part of my body!
WLS SUPPORT GROUPS: Last night, I went to a WLS support group. Thankfully, the hospital where I had my surgery offers different support groups every Thursday night (one for people less than a year out of surgery, a nutrition class, a class for those over a year, and another for bypass patients), and then the 2nd Monday of the month is the support group specifically for bandsters. It was so helpful to talk to the nurse practitioner who runs it, and to hear what other people were going through. Almost everyone there was a few weeks or months out from their surgery. Two people were close to a year out, and had each lost close to 80 pounds (1 via band, 1 via GB). Just to get the reminders about my water intake, size of food portions, suggestions and ideas on foods that might work well was great. I HAVE to make the time for this, at least once a month. Night meetings at work be-dammed. I have to take care of me this way. I feel so re-energized and excited to really focus on the tools that will help me be successful! And it helped remind me that those "little" things I've been occasionally doing (like a 100 calorie ice cream cup or glass of wine) isn't going to help the process. Doesn't mean I can't do it, but I have to make the educated choice and pay the consequences. Oh - and I got a great camelback water bottle, but it has a straw... and she said that if that is what helps me get in the water, it is not going to be a big deal to use the straw. YAY!! (for those of you not aware, one of the "rules" (recommendations?) is to not use straws after WLS because of the amount of air you intake into your tummy, but if you do it slowly, it isn't a big deal supposedly)
RABID POSSUMS: The other exciting (maybe not) thing this morning was seeing what we think may be a rabid possum in our neighbor's back yard across the "creek" (aka drainage ditch) in our back yard. I called animal control, and they came out but of course the possum was gone. However, they don't think it was rabid - maybe just hungry and foraging for food - but it was an interesting morning none-the-less... and it is only 9:20! Apparently Possums (rabid or not) are on the bottom of the animal control list in terms of risk. Great. At least our yard is fenced in, and thanks to the last major hurricane that came through, the possum would have to climb up an 8 foot straight embankment to get to our side. Oh wait - they can climb trees. Forget that!
Well, these are my random thoughts for the day. I've got my first load of wash in, next is getting my pantry cleaned out, then going to go to Trader Joe's and then get ready for Dave Matthew's tonight. Lucia gets to "sleep over" (until we pick her up at 1am) at her friend Zach's house (who by the way she is going to marry - mind you, she is 4), whose parents are going with us... it should be fun!
