Huh? Yeah, doesn't sound like much but it TERRIFIES me. Seriously terrifies me. Ever since watching some neighbors / friends run the Peaks Island Road Race on Peaks Island, Maine (it is 5 miles), I've wanted to be able to do it. I want to be able to run a 5k. Which is only 3 miles and change. So, my stake is in the ground. I am going to run a 5k. I don't know when, but I am going to do it within a year. Catherine, Amy, and more of you, plus the Biggest Loser (love that show) have inspired me. So instead of going to Curves this morning, I decided to run. I DID IT! Not far - I walked/ran 2 miles, and of that probably actually ran about .7 miles, but I did it. I am elated (and exhausted). I ran every other block. For the long ones, I either split it in half, or I walked it. But I did it. And I realized that I am able to... it hurt. But I can't imagine what it would have felt like 50 pounds ago. It was a good feeling!

That is awesome. I am so happy for you!
You go!! That is really fantastic! I have a good article for you -- it's a Couch to 5K Program that another bandster (who is now running 5Ks too) told me about. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
With Boot Camp, I didn't do the program, but he loved it, and I've heard really good things. It could be just the thing to get you where you want to be! I am so proud of you for this big step!! 2 miles is nothing to sneeze at! :)
Catherine
GREAT job!! ;-)
I did two 5Ks in 2008 ~ the first one with a group of Weight Watchers ladies ~ we pretty much fast walked it in less than an hour.
The second one I did about 4 months later with a girl friend and we did the jog/walk "jalk" thing and I shaved some minutes off my time and that was my goal!
Now the man candy and I are talking about doing one in October and we "jalk" our 2 or 3 miles whenever we can!
YOU CAN do this!! I'm so proud of you!!
That is awesome and I know you can do it! You already started off with more than I started off doing! The feeling after you finish a 5k, even if you dont RUN it...is just amazing. More so for those of us who never thought we would EVER do it!
I've always wanted to run too!! There's a 5K on Mother's Day I want to do. When's the Peak's Run? I live about 30 minutes away....maybe we could make it a joint goal down the road and meet up and do it together!!??
YEAH! Running will change your life. It is one of the best things I have ever done for my mental and physical health. Did you see my post called Just Do It? You will see I started running around 220, did a 5K 3 months later, a half marathon 3 months after that, and a marathon a year after I started running. That was a few years ago, but I never stopped running and I think this has kept me from gaining even more weight.
It is totally worth it. I started with Couch to 5K too, or a similar program, can't remember the name.
YOU CAN DO IT! The more you run, the better it feels. Can't wait to hear about your running successes!
Oh yeah, another excellent training program is the Jeff Galloway run/walk method. I did this training for the marathon, and actually met Jeff at our initial meeting.
Also as part of my marathon training I met and ran with the Runner's World writer known as John "the Penguin" Bingham. Go to jeffgalloway.com and johnbingham.com. John Bingham is very inspiring, and he offers many tips for those of us bigger and slower runners on his website and in his books.
Good luck! I am so excited for you!
Thanks all! I just found a race here in VA that is in 5 weeks and is 3 miles. I can do this... And my girlfriend has signed on to do it with me! So, I'll keep you posted!
Congrats on taking this step. I lost 100lbs pre-band, almost 10 years ago, and I'm attempting to do it again now! I've always been overweight and running just never entered my mind, so I get the fear thing. There was a point in my first big weight loss where i got on the treadmill and was just running and running, and when I finished, I remember going to the bathroom at the gym and crying because I was so proud of myself and so shocked that I could really become a different person, someone that runs! So congrats. It can be such a major thing!

What a big step, Sarah!!! I have been doing a bit of jogging with my trainer and it is SUCH a good feeling... I never thought I'd say it either. It's just one of those things that I never thought I would WANT to do more of. :) Keep us posted on how it goes.
Sarah that's awesome!!! If you want to do it I know you can accomplish it :)
I am not a runner either but one of my long term goals is to run a local 5k held every spring, I can't wait to start training. Please keep us posted, and pass along any training tips.
You found a race! Great! Looks like I am going to do a 5K too...A benefit for an athlete who was injured. How can I say no? In early Nov.
Way to go! Now you have a concrete goal and deadline!
Wow - absolutely fantastic! How cool!! I remember in one of my many yo-yo weight loss moments, that I caught myself in mid-run, not even realizing that I was running, because I hadn't done so in years!! It was a great moment. Good for you.
You took a huge step. I have doubt that you will run that 5K. You go!
That's awesome !!Good for you for acting on your wants !! I'm hoping to run one day also..maybe another 20lbs and I'll give it a try !!
That is awesome! Yay for you!!
I always think people who are jogging look so cool!
I began running/jogging about a month ago and it's amazing what 15 lbs lighter will do. I can't wait until another 50-80 pounds fall off. LOL
If you can dream it you can do it! So happy for you. It is inspiring to see the progress you are making. Keep up the great work. Your daughter is precious! Congratulations on the tooth fairy visiting!
