Well, my stake is officially in the ground. I am officially signed up for a race! I'm going to run/walk the 3 mile Mechanicsville Miler on Saturday, October 24th (5 weeks away) and holy cow, I'm scared! I'm stiff as a board today, but I'm going to go out tomorrow morning and start practicing!!! One of my great friends Ali, who is also my neighbor, emailed me yesterday and after a long exchange we both agreed that now is the time to do it. So, she's promised to run it with me and be my support! That is when the snowball started moving down the hill.... Now Dennis (my husband) and Ed (her husband) and all of our kids are running too... 3 miles for the adults and a 100 yard race for the kids. Whooo Hoooo! It's a local race, which is great, and I don't exactly know what I've gotten myself into, but it will be good. And a special thanks to all my bandster, family & friend support on the last post. 16 comments and counting... clearly this is a goal many of us have... Catherine, Gen, Amy, Jenny... thanks for all the suggestions! I printed off the couch-to-5-k running plan yesterday and I am going to start implementing it tomorrow morning.~*~*~*~*~ Oh - the other kicker that proves to me that I am completely crazy is that I am hosting a bridal shower for my cousin that afternoon, and EVERYONE is coming in from out of town. So not only am I going to have a house full of great people that weekend, I'm doing this too. Huh. Obviously I'm also losing some brain cells as I lose weight. Oh well! I like where I'm going. I'll keep you posted! And for those of you who will be visiting, come cheer me on! Now for new sneakers...

You can totally do this. If you do the couch to 5k, then that will help you build up, or just do what I did...add a 1/2 mile every week until the race. But you are already way ahead of where I started. When I started I only walked 1 mile at a time, and added 1/2 mile every week! I cant wait until you cross the finish line! You better take pictures.
Also, have you got good shoes? They make a difference. I started walking wearing Shox's and they, after much research, are NOT walking shoes. Once I bought new walking shoes they helped with my shins and my back!
Go Sarah!
So I downloaded the Couch to 5k on itunes and then found a website, excuse the title of it, kissmyblackass.org... it has great podcasts with new modern up to date music but has the couch to 5k mixed into it. I'm starting week 7 and love it! It is great music but she tells you when to run and when to walk. You are supposed to be able to run a 5k in 9 weeks and I know it works. I'm already running at least 2 miles @ the end of 6 weeks. Best of luck and don't give up!!!
Yeah Sarah! You will be amazed at how awesome it is. I will be right behind you (well, not literally), with a 5K on Nov. 7.
Lulu, thanks for the tip! The ipod telling me when to run and walk sounds great!
Yeah, it sounds so exciting. I can't wait to hear all about your progress and to see the pics too. You Go Girl!
I have never been able to run, but you ladies are helping me realize I will be able to do this someday! Thanks and go get um.
Sarah,
Just caught up on your blog. I am so proud that you have taken this step (or run!). I will be watching your progress and can't wait to see your photo crossing the finishing line! GO SARAH!!!!
